STUDYING THE ESSENCE OF THE NOTION «THE DEVELOPMENT OF A SOCIO-ECONOMIC SYSTEM»

Existing definitions of the notion «development», «the development of a system» and «enterprise development» have been considered. Main features distinguishing development among other processes, such as irreversibility, orientation and pattern of changes, have been determined. Manifestations of the essence of the notion «development» as an immanent property, principle, law, process, phenomenon, result – each described – have been revealed and ranked in terms of their occurrence in time. A comparative analysis of the notion «development» with related categories, i.e. growth, improvement, evolution, progress, has been carried out. Development features that are representative of a socio-economic system have been specified for each manifestation of the «development» notion essence. A definition of the notion «socio-economic system development» has been proposed.
